Yachting Workshop Experience - Next 10 Years

SurplusGlOBAL has been holding various activities for newly joined colleagues to experience the culture and meet different people here. Unfortunately, The Yachting Workshop has been put on pause for 3years due to the pandemic. As a newbie who joined SurplusGLOBAL early this month, I am honored to be able to participate in such an event and get a chance to meet colleagues from other departments. We were formed into groups of 10 with mixed backgrounds. After we got on the yacht, our group leader, the executive, Kelly has given us an interesting assignment. She wants us to write a letter to our future selves in 3 years. To make this more meaningful, she sealed the folder as a time capsule and promised to return us after the ‘deadline’. Looking at the famous Han-river view in Seoul with the perfect sunset, was a great moment to reflect and spill our thoughts. It was also a treasurable opportunity to chat with other colleagues, especially when I got a lot to learn from each of them, even a short conversation has brought me new perspectives and insights. Listening to the stories from different generations and positions, we exchange and respect thoughts of one another, as the yacht moves forward it is leading us in the same direction of growth. I couldn’t imagine crossing paths with them, hearing about their lives and goals if it wasn’t for this workshop. After the sharing of SurplusGLOBAL history and DNA (core value), we raised our glass of champagne and cheered for the present and future. |

As SurplusGLOBAL doesn’t just treat their people as employees, welfare and resources provided are for sure one of the biggest motivations of our colleagues. The Chinese restaurant we went to was nice and cozy, throughout the whole meal I can feel the spirit of 민이식위천 (民以食爲天), which means ‘food is the god of the people’ in ancient times. SurplusGLOBAL values the health of colleagues and always takes good care of it. To wrap up the workshop, we have to present and discuss about our next 10 years. I was amazed by how everyone has goals that align with SurplusGLOBAL’s vision, it was a chance for me to fast forward and have a peek at the possible future. Some hope to provide the best for their family, some want to contribute to the ecosystem of the semiconductor industry, and some decided to dedicate themselves to education after retiring. Slowly I realized that maybe after numerous achievements in the 20s, 30s, or even 40s, the ultimate goal that keeps yourself moving forward is about giving. ‘Give and Take’ is one of the basic ideas that is easy to say but hard to do, I believe that the message of SurplusGLOBAL about giving has influenced all of us.
