"I want to give a little hope to the disabled and their families.”
The reality is that most of companies' social contribution activities are centered on conglomerates. however, In order to fulfill corporate social responsibility, small and medium-sized company with about 50 employees has been quietly working for the disabled and their families for seven years now. The Hero is SurplusGLOBAL, a No.1 Pre-owned semiconductor equipment solution company.
"We thought about how we will carry out social contribution activities since we started our business in 2000." said CEO Kim, Jeong wong of SurplusGLOBAL. "We established a 'Smile Together Foundation' in 2012 that has high social investment value while guaranteeing sustainability after painstaking efforts."
The background of Kim's interest in healing the developmentally disabled and his family's frustration is because his son, who grew up to be a young man in his 20s, was born a developmental disabled child. Parents with children with developmental disabilities are determined to fight in one word during the parenting process. That's how much physical and psychological stress a family has."
He has recently done something difficult. (like Song Joong-ki, the lines of the KBS drama "Descendants of the Sun.") As the first chairman of the board at Smile Together Foundation, He held the 1st Autism Expo for the disabled with autism and delayed development at the Yangjae aT Center during July 12-13, 2019. Despite of various social contribution events centered on the government or conglomerates, small and medium-sized company has completed their success hosting the first expo event in Korea for the first time.
"When I first organized the Autism Expo two years ago, I was up all night wondering if it would work out until the opening of the event. The exhibition booths were not filled, so I followed government agencies and companies and implored them to help. It was our first event, so we weren't sure we'd meet our target for 4,000 Visitor."
However, Kim's concern over the success of the Autism Expo was unfounded. Prior registration has already easily surpassed 13,500 on the eve of the opening of the Autism Expo. Even online registration website were once paralyzed. The 10,000 entrance bracelets prepared were out of stock. Considering the entrance stickers issued as temporary measures, more than 20,000 people visited the Autism Expo every day. In other words, this Event has achieved more than 500 percent of the target number of visitors.
"During the Autism Expo, There were several moments when my heart was pounding and my eyes were burning. I felt my heart warming a lot. My heart was torn by the sight of an old woman carrying her big son's hand. Many companies and individuals readily supported the sponsorship and successfully completed the event because of the dedicated efforts of the volunteers."
SurplusGLOBAL CEO Kim, Jeong wong has not forgotten his gratitude to individual investors who own shares on one side of his mind. Although the company operates 'Smile Together Foundation' with donations of more than 500 million won and dividends on the company's shares every year, the company spends as much as 300 million won. On the other hand, however, even though SurplusGLOBAL is small and medium-sized company, their social contribution activities evaluate the company to positive image and are judged to have a greater impact on branding.
Kim once again grasped his mind when he hosted the Autism Expo this time. This is because families of the disabled felt peace, love, warmth and comfort in the exhibition hall. He held a festival for interested people, including families with developmental disabilities. "Now I've put the first step on it. There was a lot to be desired. At the next Autism Expo, I want to show you a more mature event with better planning, empathy and participation. And as the world's No.1 Pre-owned semiconductor equipment company, I will play a faithful role in the development of domestic industrial and academic competitiveness."
