What's your name?

" I tried to live every day as if it was the final day of extraordinary, ordinary life"

The Korean name is Jung Jong-ho and the English name is Tim. I chose Tim, the protagonist of the fun movie "About Time", as my English name. 


Tell a little bit about yourself!

I joined SurplusGLOBAL in November 2020, since I left my first job where I worked for over 10 years. I have been working here for half a year now and still in the period of adaptation and trying to work hard to internalize SurplusGLOBAL’s work culture. I am doing HR, which I used to do at my previous work, but the company culture and process were so different, so that I am learning one by one with the mind of a newcomer in society. I want to grow further at SurplusGLOBAL with a full of excitement as it is a new beginning.


What role do you play in a team at SurplusGLOBAL?

I am in charge of HR in the management support team which I take responsibility for overall personnel affairs such as recruitment, evaluation, compensation, and education. I am recruiting a lot of new colleagues in line with the relocation of the Semiconductor Equipment Cluster in July 2021.

Indeed, I am working to improve the process and reliability of evaluation and compensation, which have been steadily established for a long time as major tasks in 2021. On the other hand, I feel like I have one more major task that I need to work on the company's reputation since many people do not aware of us how amazing an organization we are. Together with the marketing manager, I am constantly making efforts to promote SG's excellent corporate culture and to find excellent colleagues with whom we can share the future.


What are 3 positive things about you?

First, I love to learn. I like to get to know things I did not know, so I always try to learn new things with an attitude of learning. SurplusGLOBAL has been creating SG's unique organizational culture and HR process for the past 21 years. But I still would like to further introduce HR trends to SurplusGLOBAL. And so, I would like to play an important role in the continued growth of SG HR.

Second, I think the basics are the most important part. I check the basics in the process of work and make it a priority to keep it. Rather than processing things in pieces, I try to create a result by considering various opinions and cases through the process of finding answers to the underlying questions first.

Third, I am not afraid of change. I live a daily life that is not special, but I enjoy going on more adventures that I have not experienced before, such as new places and new foods. At SurplusGLOBAL, I am enjoying the changes and new experiences.


How would you like to define being part of SurplusGLOBAL team?

If we communicate with our colleagues independently based on passion & challenge, we can fully unleash our capabilities at SurplusGLOBAL. Each of our colleagues is an expert in a certain field, and we can freely realize our own expertise. 

Regardless of the formalities, everyone can demonstrate their expertise to achieve corporate and personal growth together. Our colleagues are creating a Semiconductor Equipment Cluster by collecting ideas like we were building our own houses.  Everything that SG experiences in daily life is a time to face each other's ideas.


Would you like to say something to your future colleagues?

“We don't hire employees. We look for our colleagues.” At SG, executives make decisions, but the opinions of colleagues are reflected in every process. Colleagues attend dinner interviews to find new colleagues, and we also listen to colleagues' opinions in the annual competency evaluation. SG colleagues communicate horizontally, and all SG colleagues are growing SurplusGLOBAL together. We play a role as experts in each field and look forward to meeting with colleagues who want to achieve our dreams in our lives.


Have you ever been outside your comfort zone?

The move to SurplusGLOBAL was a new attempt. I have been working at my first job for 10 years, and I was familiar with the overall work as an HR senior, so the quitting time was quick. But there was an emptiness in my mind. I felt that I had been staying there for a long time and because I could not draw my grown-up image after 5 and 10 years, so I decided that I should change my job. Applying to SG, AI competency test, interview 1st, and 2nd, dinner interview was a long process compared to other companies, but as it progressed step by step, I became more and more attracted to SG's culture. Leading the way, the AI competency test was introduced. Through the dinner interview, I was able to feel their affection for the company while communicating with my colleagues. I thought that my colleagues were full of positive energy. If I joined SG, I would be able to work happily like them. The feeling I felt for the first time after working at SG for 6 months is the same, and I think SG has more advantages than when I saw it outside SG. I would like to grow as a family of SG by drawing myself, who has grown further 10 years from now.
